Lockheed Martin needed to develop an Interactive Electronic Training Manual (IETM) for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. The IETM would give maintenance workers real-time access to updated versions. Innodata Isogen rose to the challenge by linking data on each component so as to allow authors to make changes that could be reviewed almost instantaneously in the field. In addition to immediate access to data, the cost and time of printing manuals were completely eliminated.
By incorporating content management routines and implementing more advanced publishing solutions, companies can reduce the time and effort it takes to create, manage and distribute information. Of course, converting from a legacy, paper-based system to a more robust one that allows for electronic delivery can be a challenge. Technical writers, engineers and the management team have to be comfortable in the new environment.
Out-of-the-box solutions rarely accommodate both data and personnel requirements. With experience in all sectors of the defense industry, Innodata Isogen has developed and integrated authoring, publishing and content management systems that build complete solutions and meet our customers’ complete requirements.
For example, Innodata Isogen experts worked closely with Lockheed Martin to design, develop and implement an advanced technical data authoring and documentation system for their F-35 Joint-Service Technical Data Team.
But the job does not end once information is created. Links must be created and managed, while revisions, applicability and formatting requirements also need to be accommodated. Innodata Isogen’s defense experts are adept at developing authoring aids that ease the creation of the complex links, references and conditional content needed to provide the level of interactivity required for both Web-based and self-contained systems. This allows electronic documentation to be appropriately formatted and delivered to soldiers, sailors, pilots, and maintenance and support staff relative to their individual role, level of expertise, equipment configuration and operational state at any given time.
Additionally, many of our customers are integrating emerging S1000D, DITA, and SCORM technical standards into their environments. With our extensive experience in XML-based industry standards, Innodata Isogen can help our defense partners step up to this challenge.
We can help defense companies tackle a wide range of issues.
